Southern Kenya
Red Elephants and Endless Wilderness
Tsavo covers roughly four per cent of Kenya's land area, making it the largest protected wilderness in the country. It is split by the Nairobi-Mombasa highway into Tsavo East and Tsavo West.
Tsavo East is flat, open and dry, famous for elephants coated in the park's distinctive red soil and for the Galana River. Tsavo West is greener and more dramatic, with the Mzima Springs underwater hippo hide, Shetani lava flows and Chyulu Hills views.
Its position between Nairobi and the coast makes it a natural stop on safari-and-beach itineraries.
